ST. AUGUSTINE − Preston Shuey's RBI double in the third inning proved to be the game winning hit as No. 24 (Collegiate Baseball/Division II Top 30) Francis Marion University defeated Flagler College 4-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Flagler Stadium. Francis Marion won all three games in the weekend series.

The Patriots won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 20-8 overall and 6-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its seventh game in a row and dropped to 11-15 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Francis Marion got on the board first When Shuey singled home Brock McAllister for the first run of the game in the first inning. Buddy Sosnoskie followed with a sacrifice fly which scored John Jones to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

Tyler Cappelmann executed a perfect squeeze bunt for the Patriots lone run in the fourth inning. Tyler Boyd scored from third base.

Flagler cut the lead in half after a pair of RBI singles by Ollie Bertrand (Sainte-Adele, Quebec, Monroe CC) and Justin McKenna (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Allen D. Nease HS) in the sixth.

Jeffrey Stoner (4-0) tossed 5.1 innings, scattered five hits, two runs and struck out four for Francis Marion. Patrick Mincey recorded his third save of the season as he tossed the final 1.1 innings.

Shuey singled, doubled and knocked in two runs. Boyd added a double.

Jake Brandenberger (North Port, Fla., North Port HS) (1-2) hurled six innings, allowed three hits, four runs, walked two and fanned two. 

Kyle Foti (Stamford, Conn., Trinity Catholic HS) singled and doubled while Nate Fudala (Cincinnati, Ohio, Turpin HS) singled twice.

Flagler hosts Rollins College Wednesday (Mar. 23) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Stadium.
