ST. AUGUSTINE − John Jones went 4-for-6 with a home run, six runs batted in and scored twice to help lead No. 24 (Collegiate Baseball/Division II Top 30) Francis Marion University to a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep over Flagler College Saturday afternoon at Flagler Stadium. Francis Marion won the opener 11-1 and took the nightcap 8-0.

Francis Marion extended its win streak to three games and improved to 19-8 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt Conference. Flagler suffered its sixth consecutive loss and fell to 11-14 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

In the first game, Dalton Gress led off the top of the second inning with a double and took third on a single by Tyler Cappelmann. Brian Paulhus dropped down a squeeze bunt scoring Gress from third. Michael Wilson followed with an RBI single and Francis Marion led 2-0.

That would be all the run support starting pitcher Don Sandifer (6-1) would need. He tossed a complete game, scattered six hits, allowed one run and struck out nine batters. Sandifer retired the first 16-of-18 batters he faced.

The Patriots added a pair of runs in the third innings, one more in the sixth and three in the seventh and ninth. Francis Marion pounded out 17 hits in the opener. Each starter for Francis Marion had at least one hit.

Wilson singled three times, knocked in two runs and scored two more. Buddy Sosnoskie singled three times and drove in a pair of runs. Cappelmann went 2-for-4 with a doubled and three runs scored.

Micah Kellogg (Lakewood, N.Y., Jamestown CC) (0-2) tossed 5.1 innings and surrendered 11 hits and five runs.

Nate Fudala (Cincinnati, Ohio, Turpin HS) singled twice for the Saints.

In the second game, Francis Marion took advantage of some Flagler miscues, but also amassed 14 hits in an 8-0 win.

Wilson led off the game by reaching on a throwing error by the Flagler shortstop. He would later score on a fly ball to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Phillip Mozingo (4-1) held the Flagler bats at bay. He tossed seven innings, scattered four hits, walked three and fanned six.

Jones hit a three-run home run in the eighth innings and Preston Shuey followed with a solo blast.

Jones went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored while Sosnoskie singled three times, scored a run and drove in another. Gress and Cappelmann each singled twice. Gress collected one RBI while Cappelmann scored a run.

Jonathan Armold (Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Pine Crest School) (2-4) lasted 5.2 innings, allowed seven hits, three earned runs, walked three and fanned three.

The same two teams will meet tomorrow (Mar. 20) at 1 p.m. at Flagler Stadium.
