FLORENCE, S.C. − No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball Top 30) Francis Marion University rallied in the opener to win 7-6 in 11 innings and then Flagler College won the second game 10-7 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Cormell Field.

Flagler moved to 16-10 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt while Francis Marion is now 20-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

In the opener, the Patriots hit three singles in a row, in the bottom of the 11th inning, and the winning run scored on an error by Flagler reliever Tyler McKendree (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail HS). With runners on first second, Brooks Arnette bunted the ball down the third base line where McKendree fielded it, but the throw to first was errant, allowing Tyler Boyd to score.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning, Payne Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game.

The Saints trailed 5-4 in the top of the seventh, but Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) singled in a run to tie the game, and the go ahead run was scored on a fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the eighth, Logan Bland hit a one-out double and then took third on a wild pitch. He scored on a groundout to tie the game at 6-all.

Both teams had a runner in scoring position in the ninth, but neither could bring in the run, until the Patriots were able to push one across in the 11th.

Tyler Cappelmann hit three singles and drove in two runs for Francis Marion. Graham Couch and Josh Biggers had two singles apiece.

Biggers (2-0) picked up the win in relief, as pitched a perfect last two innings retiring all seven batters he faced, including three by strike outs.

Bove went 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. Dagmar Pena (Jacksonville, Fla./U. of Tampa) also doubled twice and collected two RBI.

McKendree (1-1) pitched one-plus innings in relief, allowed three hits and an unearned run. Jonathan Armold (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) started and tossed six innings and scattered 10 hits and allowed four earned runs.

Flagler had a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh and Zach Gray (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bryan College) coming in for relief of starter Adam Jaudon (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez HS). Pinch hitter Austin Smetana greeted Gray with a two out, two-run home run, and the next batter, pinch hitter Trent Knight, hit a solo homer to Flagler's advantage to 6-5.

In the top of the eighth, the Saints took advantage of a pair of miscues by the Patriots and then Ollie Bertrand (Sainte-Adèle, Quebec/Monroe CC) hit a two-run single for insurance.
