ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Flagler College (29-22, 8-11 Florida Sun) scored all of its runs in third inning and held off a ninth inning rally to defeat Northwood University (22-24, 2-14) 8-4 in a Florida Sun Conference baseball game Friday night at Flagler Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, Flagler honored its six seniors: Barry Cressley (Meadville, Pa./Hillsborough CC), Chris Guerra (Fremont, Calif./Mount Mercy College), Kris King (Youngstown, Ohio/Santa Fe CC), Paul Mathews (Baton Rouge, La./Saint Louis CC-Meramec), Randy Miller (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) and Preston Picard (Detroit, Mich./Madonna University).

Miller opened the third inning by reaching on a walk and Picard (2-4, 2B, R, 3RBI) dropped down a bunt to third and beat out the throw. Glenn Kiture (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater HS) drew a walk to load the bases and after a sacrifice fly, King doubled down the line to plate the second run of the frame. Kenny Bargfeldt (Fishers, Ind./Ball State U.) (3-3, 2B, R, 2RBI) followed with a two-run single to left-center giving the Saints a 4-0 lead. Later in the inning, Picard, up for the second time in the inning, greeted relief pitcher Jonathan Velasquez with a bases clearing double to left-center to give Flagler an 8-0 lead.

The Seahawks made it interesting in the ninth. Scott Libby singled to center with one out and two batters later, Matthew Weihs doubled over Guerra's head to deep center, scoring Libby with Northwood's first run of the game. James Maley followed with an RBI single to right and Max Rios (1-4, HR, R, 2RBI) hit a home run over the right field wall to draw the Seahawks to within four (8-4) with two outs. Mathews reared back and struck out Eric Woodward to close the game out.

Tim DeSutter (Loxahatchee, Fla./Brevard CC) (4-9) earned the after tossing seven innings and scattering three hits and fanning five batters. The win was his first since March 25.

Chanse Horne (6-5) tossed 2.2 innings and allowed 10 hits and eight runs. Seven different Seahawks had hits.

The same two teams meet for a 1 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow (Apr. 22). The twinbill will wrap up the season for the Saints.
