OPA LOCKA, Fla. - Flagler College pounded out 15 hits and scored 13 runs in game shortened to seven innings due to he mercy rule in a 13-3 win over Florida Memorial University in a Florida Sun Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Harry T. Moore Field.

Flagler (14-9, 6-3 Florida Sun) spotted Florida Memorial (1-15, 0-6) an early 1-0 lead. Kyle LaMatta led off the bottom of the first, for the Lions, with a base hit. He stole second and then scored on Amed Mena's one-out double to right-center.

That apparently woke the Saints up after rolling to 6-0 and 10-0 wins a day earlier. Brad Jackson (Havana, Fla./North Florida CC) led off the second inning by reaching first on a throwing error by the FMU third baseman and took second as the ball went down the right field line. Bryan Harrell (Granger, Ind./Lincoln Trail College) singled to center allowing Jackson to advance to third. After a fly out moved Harrell to second Mike Scott (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) singled to second on a drawn in infield. Randy Miller (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) doubled down the left field line plating two runs. Another run would score on a strikeout-wild pitch and the Lion pitcher compounded the problem by trying to throw to first, but the throw was wild allowing another run to score.

The Saints added four more runs in the third, two of which came in on Bryan Crouch's (Jacksonville, Fla./Arlington Country Day School) double to left-center.

Tim DeSutter (Loxahatchee, Fla./Brevard CC) (2-4) tossed five innings and scattered eight hits, allowed one run and struck out nine batters. Miller went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Harrell went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and Scott went 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI.

The Saints stranded 16 base runners.

LaMatta went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of stolen bases for the Lions. Mena went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Michael Osborne was tagged with the loss after tossing three innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs.

Flagler College hosts Florida College on Tuesday (Mar. 7) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Stadium.
