ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Shane Darnofall's (Corry, Pa./Hillsborough CC) two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 2-all tie and helped Flagler College (24-14) to a 6-3 win over Mount Mercy College (3-16) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa in a non-conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Stadium on "Red" Cox Day. The win was also a milestone achievement for Head Coach Dave Barnett who collects his 600th victory in his 19th season as head coach, all at Flagler. Barnett is one of the NAIA's Top 20 winningest active coaches.

"It's a milestone in the profession," said Barnett on winning his 600th game. "But it's the players who win the game."

With the score tied at 2 in the bottom of the sixth, leadoff batter Glenn Kiture (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater HS) hit a double to the right-center gap. Darnofall blasted a 2-2 pitch over the leftfield fence to give the Saints a 4-2 lead. Kris King (Youngstown, Ohio/Santa Fe CC) blooped a doubled to right field, with the Mustangs outfield playing him to pull to left. The fourth run of the inning came on a safety squeeze bunt by Brad Jackson (Havana, Fla./North Florida CC).

Tim DeSutter (Loxahatchee, Fla./Brevard CC) (3-6) went the distance scattering nine hits, allowing two earned runs and striking out four batters.

Chris Guerra (Fremont, Calif./Mount Mercy College) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ben Floyd (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Brevard CC) went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Saints.

Randy Kopczyk (0-4) tossed five-plus inning, scattered eight hits and allowed four earned runs in picking up the loss. Chris Jackson went 3-for-5, including a solo home run in the seventh, with a run scored and two RBI for Mount Mercy while Adam Watson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Herbie Wiles of Herbie Wiles Insurance was honored prior to the game and awarded the "Red" Cox Award which recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact on the youth of the St. Augustine area.

Flagler College hosts Grand View College tomorrow (Mar. 26) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Stadium.
