Mercedes Salinas of the softball team was selected as the Academy Bus Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 13.
Salinas led the Saints with a .364 batting average and a .636 slugging percentage in seven games. The Immokalee, Florida native had eight hits, including two home runs, scored six runs, and drove in a team-high nine runs. In 22 at bats, Salinas only struck out twice. She hit three singles, drove in two runs, and scored another against Nova Southeastern University. In two separate games against Newberry College, Salinas hit a three-run home and a grand slam.
For the season, Salinas is batting .300 with two home runs and nine runs batted in.Â
