Sadie Russell of the women's basketball team was selected as the Academy Bus Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 9.
Russell averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game as Flagler posted a 2-0 record. She shot a team-high 59.3 percent from the field. Russell hit the game-winning shot in a 71-69 win at Columbus State University. She hit her only three-pointer (on two attempts) with seven seconds remaining in the game. Russell finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, and blocked two shots.. Against USC Aiken, she scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed six rebounds.
For the season, Russell is averaging 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. She is seventh in the Peach Belt Conference in rebounding, ninth in assists, and 10th in blocked shots.
