Kyra Gipson of the softball team was selected as the Academy Bus Athlete of the Week, for the period ending April 14.
Gipson went 2-1 with a 1.67 earned average to help lead the Saints to a 2-2 record. She tallied 29 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. Both of her wins came in a doubleheader sweep of No. 3 University of North Georgia last Friday. Gipson fanned a season-high 12 batters in game two vs. North Georgia. In the first game, she only allowed three hits in a complete game shutout. Gipson fanned nine and only tossed 86 hits. It was the first time UNG had been swept in a doubleheader by a PBC school since 2017.Â
For the season, Gipson is 15-9 with a 2.30 ERA. She has 117 strikeouts in 170.1 innings pitched. Gipson is second in the PBC in innings pitched, third in shutouts, fourth in wins, and seventh in strikeouts.Â
