Ally Marcano of the softball team was selected as the Academy Bus Athlete of the Week, for the period ending March 26.
This is the second time Marcano has been selected as the player of the week (Feb. 12).
The freshman lefty from Middletown, New York posted a 3-0 record with three appearances and two starts in Flagler's 4-0 weekend. In 16 innings pitched, she allowed nine hits and two runs with five walks and 13 strikeouts. Marcano posted a 0.88 earned run average and held the opposition to a .161 batting average. In the opener on Saturday against Francis Marion, she retired 10-of-the-first-12 batters she faced and picked up the win after tossing 5.1 innings. On Sunday, Marcano tossed a two-hit shutout vs. UNC Pembroke. She retired 16-of-the-last-18 batters she faced, including the last nine in a row. Marcano recorded her 20th win in relief in the second game, which ties a single-season school record. She tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in Flagler 3-2, 12-inning win vs. UNCP. She induced seven ground outs.
Marcano leads the Peach Belt in appearances (29), games started (21), wins (20), complete games (17), shutouts (7), innings pitched (160.1) and strikeouts (179).
