Ally Marcano of the softball team was selected as the Academy Bus Athlete of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 12.
The freshman lefty from Middletown, New York posted a 2-0 record to go along with a miniscule 0.93 earned run average in two starts last week. She tossed a shutout and fanned 15 batters in 15 innings pitched. Marcano tossed a two-hit shutout vs. Florida Southern. She ran into trouble in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and two outs, but induced a line out to end the inning. Against Newberry, Marcano tossed all eight innings and left the go-ahead run stranded at third base. Â
Marcano is second in the Peach Belt in strikeouts (33); fourth in appearances (6), complete games (3), shutouts (1); and, sixth in strikeouts/7 innings (6.72).
