Michael Maiocco of the baseball team was selected as the TraveLynx Athlete of the Week, for the period ending March 6.
Maiocco posted a record of 2-0, earning both of Flagler's wins during the week (2-3), and he posted a 1.00 earned run average in his two appearances, including one start. He tossed nine innings and struck out 19 batters. Maiocco fell one strikeout shy of tying the program's single-game record of 16 which was set in 1989. In that game at Albany State, he retired 13 batters in a row which included 11 strikeouts. He picked up the win in relief on Sunday at UNC Pembroke where he tossed two innings and fanned four more batters.
For the season, Maiocco is 2-1 with a 5.61 ERA in six appearances with four starts. In 14.1 innings pitched, he is second on the staff with 24 strikeouts.
