Molly Whittington of the softball team was selected as the TraveLynx Student-Athlete of the Week, for the period ending April 13.
Whittington had a big weekend batting .500 (6-12) with two home runs, five runs batted in and four runs scored as she helped Flagler to a 3-1 week. She led the Saints in hits (6), home runs (2), RBI (5), total bases (12) and slugging percentage (1.000). Whittington's solo blast in the fifth inning gave Flagler just enough insurance (5-0) to defeat UNC Pembroke 8-4 in the second game Saturday. Her three-run homer in the second game Sunday at Francis Marion provided enough runs to invoke the mercy rule.
For the season, Whittington is batting .272 with 40 hits, is second on the team with four home runs and has 21 RBI. She is third on the team in runs scored (25) and stolen bases (10).
