Coaching at Flagler
Brian Duncan is the first head coach of the Flagler College men's lacrosse program. That was officially announced at a press conference on Sept. 16, 2019.
Duncan helped coach the Saints to a Peach Belt Division title and they played for the first automatic qualifier in the league's history. He guided the team to a program record 14 wins in 2025 and its first national ranking with a peak of No. 6. Flagler also defeated its first nationally-rank opponent on Feb. 21, 9-8 in overtime, against No. 16 Florida Southern College. The Saints had seven All-Peach Belt Confrence honorees while Brandon Grusholt was selected as the co-defenseman of the year and Tyler Douglass was the midfielder of the year. Five players earned USILA All-South Region honors while three more (Grusholt, Douglass, and Trace McDonald) were selected as USILA All-Americans. Another four players received academic all-conference accolades.
The 2024 season saw Duncan lead the Saints to their second consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game. After posting a 7-9 overall record and a 2-2 conference record, Duncan produced four first team All-PBC and one second team All-PBC. Trace McDonald became the first Saint in program history to be named USILA All-American honorable mention, USILA All-South Region Third Team while also being selected as the PBC Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2023, Duncan guided his charges all the way to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game. The Saints finished with a 7-10 overall and record and posted a 4-1 mark in league play. Six players earned All-PBC honors, three of which earned first team honors. Antanas Mikuzis was selected to the USILA National Team of the Week. Three players earned academic all-conference and CSC All-District honors.
Duncan recorded his first win at Flagler on April 2, 2022 vs. Young Harris College (22-7). He coached the Saints to a 2-3 record in the Peach Belt Conference and the team also won a PBC Tournament game. Duncan coached Thomas Pritchard and Jake Griffin to all-conference honors as well as Drew Flagg being selected as a co-Freshman of the Year.
Duncan has been with Flagler men's lacrosse since 2016 as its club head coach.

Prior to Flagler
Duncan is deeply rooted in the First Coast having held various coaching positions since 2009. His first stop was as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Jacksonville University from 2009-11. He helped the Dolphins program from its inception. Jacksonville won 11 games in its first two years, which included wins over two NCAA Division I tournament teams in the inaugural season (2010). In JU's first year as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the Dolphins advanced to the conference tournament semifinal.
After Jacksonville, Duncan helped form the first professional team, the Jacksonville Bullies. He was the head coach of the team and was instrumental in an anti-bullying campaign called "Bullies against Bullying" in the fall of 2011.
He had a short stint (2013-14) at the Bolles School where he coached one All-American and 20 all-district players. He sent several players on to NCAA Division I institutions, including Cornell University. His teams improved from 8-11 in his first season to 10-5 in year two.
Duncan also served as an assistant coach/offensive coordinator at Florida Tech where the team was ranked No. 15 in the nation on offense (12.44 goals per game). Florida Tech was ranked as high as No. 12 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 10 in the Nike Poll with a 12-4 record. He helped seven players earn All-Sunshine State Conference honors and the 2015 team reached the conference championship game.
He was the offensive coordinator of the Florida Launch, a professional lacrosse team in Boca Raton that was a member of the Major Lacrosse League. The Launch made the final four in 2017.
Duncan started his coaching career at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) at Essex. He coached the team to a national title in 2004 and was selected as the national coach of the year. He was a five-time Region XX Coach of the Year and won the regional title five times. Duncan was a four-time Maryland JUCO Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He coached the Knights to five NJCAA final four appearances and three national championship games. He has coached three NJCAA National Players of the Year, 27 NJCAA first-team All-Americans, and 16 NJCAA second-team All-Americans.
Duncan graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he was a midfielder on the lacrosse team from 1989-92. He was voted captain of the team as a junior and senior. During his time there, the Retrievers knocked off No. 2 Maryland (1991) and were ranked as high as No. 13 (1992). He scored 36 goals and tallied 19 assists in his career. He won 211 faceoffs. Duncan led the team in ground balls (91) as a senior. He was drafted to play professional indoor lacrosse for Pittsburgh (1993) and Baltimore (1994). He was a part of six American Lacrosse League Championships, five Ocean City Master's Championships, and one Vail Supermaster's Championship.
