Matt Girouard enters his third year as an assistant volleyball coach at Flagler College.
Girouard comes to Flagler after spending the 2020-2021 academic season at Division III Wilmington College in southwest Ohio. There he worked closely in the serve and serve receive game, as well as training the backrow defenders. Additionally, he took the lead on scouting opponent film and managing and organizing practice film for his players and staff.
He spent two seasons in various roles as a student at the University of Dayton and one year as a volunteer assistant when former Flagler head coach Matt Affolder was the head coach at UD in 2013.
Girouard went on to be the volunteer assistant at the University of Wisconsin in 2014 where they had a 31-3 record that included being Big Ten Champions and making it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament. He was the scouting coordinator responsible for managing all the film from practice to matches and all opponent film.
In 2015, Girouard became the assistant coach at Division II Urbana University in Ohio, where he helped jump start the Blue Knight program into top contenders in the Mountain East Conference while handling similar roles that he had at his previous stops. He then took a couple years away from the college game to coach at his alma mater Archbishop Alter High School, as well as his home club Air City Chicks. He also spent three years announcing University of Dayton volleyball matches for ESPN+.
The Dayton, Ohio native graduated from the University of Dayton in 2013 with a degree in communication, focusing on journalism and broadcasting. While there he played three seasons on the men’s club team including one year being the club president.
