DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In the season opener for the Flagler College women's soccer season, the Saints (0-1-0) fell to RV Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (1-0-0), 2-1. Junior midfielder, Ella Gembicki, found the Saints lone goal of the day at the 45th minute of regulation.

TURNING POINT
An aggressive first 10 minutes put the Eagles up early off a Agnes Vigholm assist to Ebba Fjordskaer. Adjustments were made quickly and Flagler's stout defense held the Eagles to zero shot attempts for the remaining 35 minutes of the first half.
Gembicki's solo attack equalized the Saints and Eagles, 39 seconds into the second half. The offense continued to roll as the Saints saw one corner and a shot attempt by Netanya Brown. A costly yellow card resulted in a penalty kick for the Eagles' Lauryn Mateo, putting the blue & yellow up 2-1. Despite the adversity, Flagler's defense stayed strong as freshman Irina Barron-Gomez earned her first collegiate save in the 82nd minute.

Flagler will continue their road slate as they travel to No. 7 Nova Southeastern University for a midweek battle on Wednesday, September 2nd. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and the game will be streamed on Sunshine State Digital Network.
