COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 4 (ITA Top-50)Â Flagler College men's tennis team defeated No. 26 Lander University, 4-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional tournament this afternoon, held at Columbus State University.
For the second time this season, the Saints have defeated the Bearcats. With this win, the Saints move to 19-4 while the Bearcats fall to 12-7. This is the 12th ranked win for Flagler this season. Tomorrow, Flagler will face the host team, No. 3 Columbus at 1 p.m.
A perfect slate in doubles was led by No. 30
Ilian Borlee and
Simon Malis. The court one duo upset No. 16 Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash 6-1. On court three,
Aniss Rafiq and
Filip Kana secured the doubles point by defeating Ismail ElShafei and Benjamin Bates, 6-2.
To stay undefeated on the day, No. 14 Borlee took the first singles point. Borlee defeated Julian Peter 6-0 and 6-3 on court three. Not long after came No. 35, Rafiq's win. Playing on court two, Rafiq defeated Maxence Barriere 6-1 and 6-4. To end the match, No. 52
Raphael Rousson had a dominant 6-1 and 6-1 win over Anton Krondell. Before the stoppage, all remaining Saints were tied or winning their matches.
