COLUMBUS, Ga. - In the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, the No. 17 Flagler College women's tennis team defeated Augusta University 4-1 to advance to the semifinal round this afternoon at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
The Saints defeated Augusta for the second time this season. Flagler will face second seeded, No. 13 University of North Georgia tomorrow at 9 a.m. Previously, the Saints came out on top, 4-3 over the Nighthawks during the regular season.
Doubles saw a resurgence for the Saints as they dropped the point in their previous meeting. Starting off
Eryka Kruk and
Lea Jakic who defeated Julieta Palma and Priscilla Landi 7-5. This is the duo's eight consecutive win. To win the point,
Elena Ondobo and
Marie Fairier took a tight 7-6 (7-5) win over Andrea Gonzalez and Maria Gento.
Prior to the stoppage, every Saint whose match was unfinished was leading. No. 15 Ondobo added on to her now 11 win streak after defeating Gento 6-2 and 6-0.
Sofia Balsera finished second, defeating Landi 6-1 and 6-3. To finish the match, Jakic defeated Camila Taborga 6-4 and 6-1.
