ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 3 ranked Flagler College men's tennis team defeated their first Peach Belt Conference opponent of the season, No. 11 University of North Georgia, 5-2 this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Advancing to a 11-2 overall record and 1-0 in conference, the Saints will host No. 21 Lander University on Monday, Mar. 30 at 2 p.m. North Georgia dropped to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
A full sweep in doubles was led by
Ilian Borlee and
Filip Kana on court three. the duo was the first set of Saints to capture a win, defeating Marcos Castellanos and Franco Rebora 6-1. The finisher was
Aly El Rafie and
Noah Paterson at court one, defeating Juan Cruz Blanco and Ben Brandl 6-4. After the clinch,
Aniss Rafiq and Simon defeated Pedro Liborio and Janos Varga 6-4.
In singles, the Saints stayed hot, taking three of the five matches. No. 10 Borlee had little struggle with Joao Luis Silva, defeating the Nighthawk in two 6-1 sets. This was Borlee's third time playing at court two this season and is currently undefeated in all matches. No. 41
Raphael Rousson earned the Saints next point with his 6-1 and 6-3 win over Rebora. No. 34
Aly El Rafie also made quick work against Varga, defeating 6-0 and 6-1 to clinch the match. The final win was a hard fought 3-6, 7-6(7-5) and 1-0(10-8) win from Kana over Brandl.
