Saints fall short to No. 6 Francis Marion

Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – Flagler College played the second day of the Patriots Invitational. The first game against No. 23 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Kutztown University was canceled due to weather, but played No. 6 Francis Marion University and lost 3-0 on Saturday evening at the FMU Softball Stadium.

Kutztown finished the tournament 0-2, making them 3-3 overall. Francis Marion ended 2-1 with an overall record of 12-3. Flagler left 2-1 and 2-9 on the season. The Saints will head to Savannah, Georgia on Wednesday to take on the Lady Tigers of Savannah State University at 1 p.m.

Alyssa Poston (5-1) grabbed the win for the Patriots. She tossed a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts. Poston retired 12 of the first 13 batters before allowing Flagler's only hit in the fifth inning. She faced two batters over the minimum.

The Patriots scored an unearned run in the third and scored two more in the fifth for insurance. Mikaela Goss drew a bases loaded walk and Madalyn White followed with a sacrifice fly. White finished 2-for-2 with a double and one run batted in.

Riley Rowe (1-5) started the game and pitched 3.1 innings. She allowed six hits, one run, and had one strikeout. Ava Matthews came in to finish the game as she allowed two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.

Stephanie Daly had the only hit of the game in the top of the fifth, a single to center.
