Kruk advances to the semifinal round of the ITA Southeast Regional

SUMTER, S.C. - Eryka Kruk had the deepest run of the weekend for the Flagler College women's tennis team, advancing to the semifinal round of the Iintercollegiate Tennis Association's Southeast Regional that concluded last Sunday at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

Kruk entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed, the highest seeding in her three appearances at this tournament. In the quarterfinal round, the senior upset No. 3 seed Anastasiia Opolska of the University of North Georgia 7-5 and 6-2. Kruk lost to Vasilissa Kupriyanova of North Georgia in the semifinal. This is the furthest Kruk has advanced in her career.

In her Saints and ITA debut, Elena Ondobo advanced to the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Ondobo's most dominant win in the tournament came in the Round of 32 where she defeated Oleysa Stokusova of North Georgia 6-1 and 6-0. Her final win came against Patricia Vedia of Lees-McRae College, 6-3 and 6-2.

Sofia Balsera made improvements from last year, advancing to a new career high, the Round of 16. Balsera defeated Marta Meinichenok of Lincoln Memorial University 6-2 and 6-1 during the Round of 32. During her final match, Balsera pushed Valeria Guerrero of Erskine College to three sets.

In doubles the Saints competed in Flight A and Flight B. Ondobo and Balsera advanced the furthest for the Saints, playing their way to the quarterfinal round. Their lone win came against Constanca Azinhaga and Lucy Cunliffe of University of Virginia's College at Wise, 9-7. In Flight A, Kruk and freshman Marie Fairier fell to Linn Goerdes and Kupriyanova of North Georgia 8-5 in the Round of 16.
