Sofia Balsera won the black draw of the YTF Southeastern Invitatgional at the Beerman Family Tennis Center which concluded Sunday.
This is the first individual tournament win for the Saints this season. The Saints will travel to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to compete in the Embry-Riddle Hidden Duals from Oct. 24-25.
Balsera won her first individual title after defeating five competitors. To advance to the championship round, Balsera upset the No. 6-seed Emily Jennewein of Florida Southern 6-0 and 7-6 (7-5). In the final round, No. 1-seed Josie Holderbach of Florida Southern withdrew due to injury.
Elena Ondobo entered the tournament as the No. 4-seed and advanced to the semifinal round. Ondobo's journey saw her beat the No. 5-seed Annika Berrendorf of Florida Southern, 6-2 and 6-0.
Leah Waechter and
Eryka Kruk were the final two Saints to advance to the semifinal round. Kruk entered the tournament as the third seed and competed in the black draw. Waechter competed in the red draw and entered as the third seed.
