MORROW, Ga. –
Reiss Skeen and
Henry Okenla each scored goals to help lead Flagler College to a 2-0 win over Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Laker Field.
Flagler won its fourth match in a row and improved to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. The Saints lead the all-time series against the Lakers 15-13-2 and have won three of the last four matches. Flagler is 5-0-1 in its last six conference openers. The last time the Saints dropped their first conference match was Oct. 5, 2019, to the University of North Georgia (2-0). Clayton State dropped to 1-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in league play. Flagler hosts Lander University on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Saints Field.
The Saints were able to break the scoreless tie in the 23
rd minute.
Finn Weigelt was taken down in the box by Laker goalkeeper Kalle Kuisma. Skeen took the penalty kick and blasted the shot inside the left post.
Okenla gave the Saints some insurance with a goal in the 71
st minute.
Owen Cunha assisted.
Ryan Rivas turned in his third clean sheet of the season and had a season-best six saves. Kuisma tallied three saves for the Lakers.
Clayton State out-shot Flagler 20-7 as Gonzalo LaChica led with six shots. Okenla led the Saints with three. The Lakers held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Clayton State committed 12 fouls while Flagler had nine. The Lakers had to play a man down for the final 40 minutes of the match after a red card was issued to one of their players.
