ST. AUGUSTINE – Three different Flagler College players scored a goal in a 3-2 win over Florida Southern College in a non-conference men's soccer match Tuesday night at Saints Field.
Flagler won its third match in a row and improved to 3-1-1 overall. The Saints lead the series 5-3-2 and hold a 4-1-2 record in home matches. Florida Southern suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 3-1-0. The Saints open Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday at Clayton State University at 3:30 p.m.
Paul Hansen gave the Moccasins the early lead with an unassisted goal in the 30
th minute.
Just a little over a minute later,
Gustav Moberg's short through ball found
Alex Alexandrou cutting into the top of the box and he blasted a left-footed shot inside the right post to tie the match.
The Saints took the lead when
Henry Okenla headed in Alexandrou's cross into the box in the 52
nd minute.
Daniel Becerra gave the Saints some insurance with a goal in the 58
th minute. After a free kick near the left sideline at midfield got to
Owen Cunha, he served a ball into the box where Becerra got his left foot on the ball and got a shot off that grazed the leg of a Florida Southern player and went into the goal.
The Mocs scored another goal in the 62
nd minute, but could not get any closer.
Reiss Skeen led the Saints with three shots and Hansen had a team-high four for the Mocs.
Ryan Rivas had two saves for Flagler while Lasse Dettmer finished with five for Florida Southern.
Each team finished with 10 shots, but the Saints held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. The Mocs where whistled for nine fouls while the Saints had six.
