No. 4 Saints win their second consecutive conference title

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 4-ranked (ITA Division II Men's Top 50) Flagler College men's tennis team won their second consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament title this afternoon as they defeated No. 19 University of North Georgia 4-1 at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

With the win, the Saints earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Adding onto their nine win streak, the Saints will continue their season holding a 19-2 record. North Georgia moves to 12-7 on the season

"I was very happy for the team to win the Peach Belt Conference Tournament," Sain head coach Jonas Piibor. "We have a resilient and motivated group who are hungry and want more this season. We embrace adversity."

Sophomore Simon Malis was named the Tournament MVP in singles. Ilian Borlee and Malis were named doubles MVP. This is the second time in program history the Saints won both MVP awards. For the second time in his career, Malis has won the doubles MVP, previously he won it in 2024 with Philip Lemken.

In doubles, the day started off with No. 30 Borlee and Malis defeating Robin Eldin and Juan Cruz Blanco 6-4. To seal the point, Baptiste Mercier and Aly El Rafie defeated Marco Castellanos and Franco Rebora 6-4.

Singles had No. 27 Malis earn the first win of the day. In three sets, Malis took the first against Rebora 6-3 then the third 6-0. Facing Castellanos, Borlee earned the Saints second singles win of the day with a set one 7-6 (7-1) then 6-3 set two. To put the crown on the Saints was Filip Kana. Clinching the match against Lleyton Beasley, Kana won 7-5 and 6-2.

Before the stoppage, El Rafie was in winning position against Maxence Petit 6-0 and 5-4. No. 36 Mercier was at a standstill against Eldin, 6-3, 4-6 and 3-3 in the third.
