Saints fend off Pacers on Saturday

ST. AUGUSTINE – Camden Andrews' layup and two free throws with less than 30 seconds left in the game to help Flagler College break a 63-all tie and down the University of South Carolina Aiken 67-63 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.

Flagler extended its winning streak to three games and raised its overall record to 6-3 and 3-1 in the Peach Belt. The Saints snapped a six-game losing streak to the Pacers and this was the first win in the series at St. Augustine since March 4, 2021 (76-62). USC Aiken had won five-of-its-last six games coming in, but dropped to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is PBC newcomer Middle Georgia State University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Cochran, Georgia.

After the Pacers tied the game at 8-all, the Saints went on 14-2 tear over the next 2:46 and never trailed again. Jordan Smith accounted for eight of those points.

USCA finally caught Flagler with 1:12 left to go. Caleb Byrd's three-pointer knotted the game at 63.

Tymoteusz Pszczola scored a team high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Saints. Tariq Daughton added 11 points and four assists. Smith finished with 10 points. Hoku Fisher corralled a career high 10 rebounds.

Byrd scored a game high 21 points for the Pacers. Jonah Lawrence tacked on 13 points.
