ST. AUGUSTINE –
Aspen Weeks scored a team-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College's late rally fell short in a 93-88 loss to Shorter University in a Southeast Region Crossover game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.
Flagler is 1-1 on the season and Shorter holds the same record. Up next for the Saints is Saint Leo University on Monday at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
The Hawks had a 22-point (84-62) lead with just 4:58 left to go in the game. The Saints closed the game on a 26-9 run. Flagler out-scored Shorter 38-24 in the fourth quarter and shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the floor.
Gabby Bush came off the bench to add 19 points, dish out seven assists, grab four rebounds, and tally three steals.
Marley Smith chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Amiya Redus of Shorter led all scorers with 41 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field, including six 3-ponter, and she made 13-of-14 from the free throw line. Aijah Manning recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsy Singleton and Amya Patterson added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
