ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College head men's basketball coach
Blake Selland enters his fourth season at the helm of the program. The Saints welcome back four players from last year's club and welcome 11 newcomers.
"I love the chemistry of this team and I'm having a lot of fun coaching this group," said Selland. "They are really close off the court which is rare with this many new guys. We have maturity. All of our NCAA Division II transfers have made the national tournament, and our Division I transfer came from a very successful program."
Mason Manning,
Hoku Fisher, and
Boom Reeves are the core returnees. All three played in all 28 games last year. Manning averaged 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while Fisher provided 6.9 points per game. Reeves led the team with 17 blocked shots.
Selland has a lot of experience in a pair of graduate transfers.
Tariq Daughton comes from Lee University and
Rahdir Hicks played at NCAA Division I member Towson University. Daughton averaged 9.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game last year for the Flames. Hicks helped the Tigers win 20-plus games in all four years he was at Towson. He had 60 assists and 28 steals as a sophomore.
Another pair of transfers,
Aidan Harris and
Tymoteusz Pszcola, bring a lot of size and physicality. Harris is a 6-foot-7 forward that transferred in from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Pszcola is a 6-foot-10 center who came to Flagler from Cedarville University in Ohio. Harris started 26 games as a freshman for the Red Flash while Pszcola has made 49.8 percent of his shots for the Yellow Jackets.
A couple of newcomers have local ties.
Jordan Smith is a guard that played at Florida State College at Jacksonville and
Larry Mitchell hails from St. Augustine but got here via Erskine College.
Selland loves
Camden Andrews' competitive spirit and leadership. He transferred in from the University of Montevallo where he averaged 9.8 points and dished out 2.8 assists per game last year for the Falcons.
The freshman class features
Melvin Teal,
Corey Perlin,
MJ Meurer, and
Caden Keller.
The Saints open the season this weekend at Florence, South Carolina where they will play in a Southeast Region Crossover tournament at Francis Marion University. Flagler opens with the host school, Francis Marion, on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Saints face Emory & Henry College on Saturday to conclude the tournament. Flagler's home opener is Nov. 18 against Trinity College of Jacksonville at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
