ST. AUGUSTINE — Carrie Consolino scored the match's only goal in the second half as Flagler College beat Georgia Southwestern State University 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Saints Field on "Senior Day."
Prior to the match, Flagler honored its eight seniors:
Paige Churchill, Consolino,
Bella Faherty,
Mikayla Lambert, Addie Meyers,
Arianna Silva,
Grace Simon, and
Mae Swenson.
Flagler improved to 8-6-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Peach Belt. The Saints will be the No. 5 seed in next weekend's conference tournament. Flagler will head to Milledgeville, Georgia to take on Georgia College & State University on Saturday at a time to be determined. Georgia Southwestern fell to 4-8-3 overall and 1-6-3 in conference play. The Saints conclude the regular season on Wednesday where they will travel to the University of Tampa for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
Following a scoreless first half, the Saints broke through in the 58
th minute when Consolino found the back of the net off an assist from
Ella Gembicki.
Phoebe Carpenter turned in her third clean sheet of the season as she finished with two saves for the Saints. Alana Beddow had four saves at the end of the match for the Lady Hurricanes.
Flagler out-shot Georgia Southwestern 9-5 and held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks. Both teams committed seven fouls.
