ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College put a scare into No. 11 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Nova Southeastern University, losing 3-2 in a non-conference women's soccer match this evening at Saints Field.
With the loss, Flagler moves 4-7-2 overall. Nova Southeastern improved to 9-0-3. The Saints return to Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday when they host Clayton State University at 3 p.m. at Saints Field.
Flagler trailed 2-0 early in the second half but got the equalizer from
Mackenzie Flynn with an assist by
Ella Gembicki in the lower left corner of the net in the 78
th minute. That was Flynn's first collegiate goal.
However, in the 82
nd minute, the Sharks took the lead on Alexa Bereczki's goal. She knocked in a pass across the box from Genesis Hernandez.
Gemicki scored Flagler's first goal in the 56th minute unassisted in the lower left corner of the net.
Phoebe Carpenter recorded seven saves for the Saints, while Emile Schroeder tallied four saves for the Sharks.
Flagler was out-shot 13-12 with all 12 shots coming in the second half. Nova Southeastern held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Saints were whistled for six fouls while the Sharks had nine.
