ST. AUGUSTINE –
Anastasia Whitehouse and
Brooke Rienecker both scored goals to help Flagler College defeat the University of South Carolina Beaufort 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort had its five-match unbeaten streak end and dropped to 8-2-2 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play. The Saints host No. 10 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Whitehouse got the Saints on the board first with a goal in the 42
nd minute off an
Olivia Dragone pass.
Rienecker gave Flagler a 2-0 lead in the 64
th minute after she scored when USCB's keeper punched out a service into the box. Rienecker lofted a shot from 35 yards away that went over the keeper's head.
Jasiah Pack scored the lone goal for the Sand Sharks.
Phoebe Carpenter recorded three saves for Flagler while Cici Powe and Grayson Asher split time in goal for USC Beaufort. Asher finished with four saves.
The Saints out-shot the Sand Sharks 14-11 as
Paige Churchill,
Avery Raimondo, and
Hannah Hughes led the way with two shots each for Flagler. USC Beaufort had four players with two shots. Each side had five corner kicks, and the Sand Sharks had 17 fouls while the Saints had 11.
