AMERICUS, Ga. – Ella Moody's goal in the 78
th minute was the game-winning goal as Georgia Southwestern State University defeated Flagler College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday evening at Hurricane Field.
Georgia Southwestern improved to 3-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 3-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The Saints head to Daytona Beach, Florida to face long-time rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the ERAU Soccer Field.
Moody's goal came off a cross into the box that ricocheted between a Flagler defender and Moody. Falling down between three Flagler players, Moody got her right foot on the ball and tucked her shoot inside the right post.
Andrea Fernandez scored the equalizer for the Saints in the 41
st minute. She knocked in a free kick from the top of the box in the top left corner of the goal. A Flagler player was fouled just outside the box.
Chloe Iuliano scored the first goal of the match for the Lady 'Canes in the 37
th minute.
The Saints had three shots in the last 12 minutes, but all were off target.
Alanna Beddow finished with six saves for Georgia Southwestern.
Henley Grunst tallied one save for the Saints.
Flagler out-shot GSW 14-4, but both teams finished with three corner kicks.
