TEMPE, Ariz. – The Flagler College women's tennis team finished atop the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Collegiate Tennis Southeast Region Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, which was released last Thursday afternoon (June 1).
Flagler finished the season with a 22-5 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the Peach Belt. The Saints advanced all the way to the final four.
Luisa Hrda and
Nadja Meier were ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in singles, while
Dana Heimen was ranked No. 11. The Saints had a pair of doubles teams in the final ranking. Hrda and Heimen topped the list and Meier and
Florencia Massardo Brain completed the list at No. 10.
Hrda posted a 30-8 overall record this season and went 17-5 this spring at No. 1. She also went 6-4 against ranked competition. The Aschaffenburg, Germany native had a banner year as she was the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and earned first team all-conference in singles and doubles. Hrda also won the ITA Southeast Regional singles and doubles titles in the fall.
Meier finished the year with a 36-3 overall record and a 24-1 mark during the spring. Her 36 wins is a D2 era record. Meier also posted an impressive 6-1 record against nationally ranked competition. The Potsdam, Germany native earned first team all-conference honors in singles and was half of a second team all-conference doubles tandem.
Heimen finished the year with an overall record of 27-4, including a 17-3 mark in the spring. The Ketsch, Germnay native earned PBC Freshman of the Year honors and was selected to the first team all-conference in singles and doubles.
Hrda and Heimen duo combined for an overall record of 19-4, including a 19-2 mark at No. 1. They finished winning their last nine matches in a row and were an even 2-2 against nationally ranked tandems.
Meier and Massardo Brain posted a 10-5 record and went 9-4 during the spring.
Four PBC teams, including Flagler, were ranked in the final region poll. Columbus State University followed Flagler at No. 2. The University of North Georgia and Georgia College & State University occupied spots at Nos. 3 and 4.
The rest of the region was: Wingate University (No. 5), Tusculum University (No. 6), Newberry College (No. 7), Anderson University (No. 8), Catawba College (No. 9), and the University of Mount Olive (No. 10).
