ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – No. 21 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College bested Washburn University 5-2 in a non-conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Flagler won its fourth match in a row to improve to 9-4 overall. Washburn lost its third match in a row and fell to 7-4.
The Saints won all three doubles matches to earn the team point.
Nikita Tatyanin and
Jagger Ong-Patzwald, who are ranked #41, cruised to a 6-1 win.
Jacopo Denitto and
Petr Cervinka's win at #3 wrapped up the point.
Flagler won four-of-the-six single matches with Cervinka's win at #3 singles proving as the match clincher. He won in straight-sets over Santiago Rendon, 6-3 and 6-1.
Pavlos Parson won his seventh match in a row while Tatyanin, the No. 27 ranked player in the nation, won his fourth match in a row.
Flagler opens Peach Belt Conference play on Friday, March 24 against Georgia College & State University at 1:30 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
