Women's tennis holds firm at second in regional rankings

Nationally, Saints just outside of top 10

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After claiming a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title for the first time in program history, Flagler College women's tennis team maintained its spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings at No. 2.

Flagler is also ranked No. 11 in the Division II Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings, sponsored by Tennis-Point, both of which where released on Thursday by the NCAA and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, respectively.

The NCAA Regional Rankings determine the seeding for the NCAA Regional Tournament as the top seven teams will compete for a chance to advance to the national championship segment, which begins the first week of May. The PBC Player of the Year, Luisa Hrda remained ranked fifth in singles, while her and Eden Schlagenhauf stayed at No. 8 in doubles.

The Saints won three of their final four matches to help hold their position since the last rankings. Flagler handed No. 61 Lander a 6-1 loss to on April 20. Following the match, the team traveled north to Dahlongea, Georgia and battled out a 4-3 win against then-No. 7 the University of North Georgia before sweeping Young Harris College, 7-0.

Columbus State University, who defeated Flagler 5-2, came in at first in the region. Right behind Flagler is Queens (N.C.) in third and North Georgia in fourth. Wingate and Newberry are holding down sixth and seventh, and the final spot in the regional tournament currently belongs to Carson Newman University.

Flagler begins the PBC Tournament today versus fourth-seeded Lander at 2 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.
