YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – No. 20 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Young Harris College used a five-run fifth inning to rally past Flagler College 5-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
Flagler won the series and leaves with a 14-11 overall record and a 7-2 mark in the Peach Belt. Young Harris is 18-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The Saints took an early lead when
Myles Colangelo led off the fourth inning by reaching on an error. He stole a base and two batters later, scored on
John Fiorenza's single.
The Mountain Lions rallied in the fifth as they sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs on five hits. A walk and a pair of singles got the rally started for Young Harris. A sacrifice fly tied the game and Marco Colina followed with a two-run single to increase the lead to 3-1. Colina took second on a wild pitch and scored on Ethan Underwood's single. That knocked Flagler starter
Ryan Ayrey (0-2) out of the game. A sacrifice fly later in the inning accounted for the fifth run.
Flagler scored a run in the seventh when Colangelo hit a single to center that allowed
Matthew Burke, who hit a one-out double down the right field line earlier, to score. The Saints left the bases loaded that inning and left 14 runners on base for the game.
Nate Lamb (3-2) hurled five innings, scattered three hits, and allowed an unearned run. He fanned six batters. Brody Meeks struck out the two batters he faced to finish the game and record his second save.
Kyle Ayers led the Young Harris offense with three singles and he scored a run. Colina went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in, and a run scored.
Ayrey tossed 4 1/3 innings for the Saints and allowed five runs on seven hits.
Jake Hill,
Anthony Nofi, and
Davian Garcia pitched in relief.
Fiorenza went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Colangelo collected a pair of singles, scored a run, and drove in another. Burke hit a pair of doubles and scored a run.
Flagler hosts top-ranked University of Tampa on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
