YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –
Omar Figueroa led four players in double-figures with 16 points, but Flagler College was defeated by Young Harris College 84-69 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday afternoon at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
Young Harris remains undefeated at 8-0 and improved to 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 5-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Saints held a 42-34 lead at the half and made 50 percent (9-18) of their baskets from three-point range. However, in the second half, Flagler was limited to 31.6 percent (12-38) shooting from the field and 14.3 percent (2-14) from long range. Conversely, Young Harris shot 52.3 percent (23-44) from the field for the game. In the second half alone, the Mountain Lions made 61.9 percent (13-21) of their shots.
Young Harris used a 21-7 run midway through the second half to pull away from Flagler. Josh Petteno ignited the run with a three-pointer with 11:01 left in the game.
Chase Fiddler added 14 points, three rebounds, three steals and had two blocked shots for the Saints.
Jaylen Lemons and
Malik Bryant each added 12 points.
Tyler Collier grabbed a team-high six boards.
Petteno scored a game-high 21 points for the Mountain Lions. Lenny Prada added 20 points and seven assists while Karl Chavis finished with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Up next for the Saints is the Tampa Classic, which will be held this weekend at the University of Tampa. Flagler opens with Eckerd College on Saturday at 5 p.m.
