Info
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Flagler men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Wingate, North Carolina for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional meet on Nov. 19.

The men's team is scheduled to race the 10K course at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 11:15 a.m.

The Flagler men and women are eager for the challenges the regional meet presents after
coming off strong performances at the Peach Belt Conference Championship, held on Nov.5.

The women earned their fifth consecutive PBC title, led by sophomore Monique Whiteman with a first-place finish to take home the individual championship with a 5K time of 18:35.5. Whiteman earned the PBC Runner of the Year award and held the second fastest 5K time in the conference 18:14.6.

Seven Flagler women earned all-conference honors, along with Freshman of the Year attributed to Abby Misch.

"There are a number of strong teams in the field, and we feel that we are certainly one of them," head coach of men's and women's cross country/ director of cross country and track Brian Beil said. "Our goal tomorrow is to race up to our potential. If we should manage it, we feel good about our chances of advancing to the national championships."

All-conference runner's, Megan Churchill, Monika Kubai and Enola Savel are returners that helped lead the Saints to a fifth-place finish in 2021 at the regional meet.

On the men's side, the team secured second place in the 8K with 49 team points at the PBC Conference Championships. Joel Nesi posted a seventh-place finish, leading the Saints pack with a time of 25:40.8. Will Stone was awarded freshman of the year and seven Flagler men hauled in all-conference team honors.

"We know that tomorrow will be a tough race with no fewer than seven teams all trying to capture a top-three spot," Beil said. "We didn't race up to our level at the conference meet, so our guys will be looking for a bit of redemption. If we can race up to our potential, I believe it will be a close race with a handful of very strong teams. We realize that we are the underdogs out there tomorrow, but our young guys are excited for the challenge."

Last season, returning all-conference runners Asad Bashir and Jon Eide led the men to their eighth place finish out of 23 teams at the regional meet.

The 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships will host 34 teams per gender, selecting the top three teams from the regional championships. The top three runners on teams not advancing will be selected to compete as individuals.
