Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 20 Saints Blank Hurricanes, 4-0

AMERICUS, Ga. - The No. 20 Flagler College women's soccer team earned its sixth win of the season and fourth in the Peach Belt Conference after shutting out Georgia Southwestern State University, 4-0, Wednesday evening.

The Saints (6-2-2, 4-1-1 PBC) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just over three minutes into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. Andrea Fernandez sent in a corner kick from the right side of the field into the box and connected with Sara Carr who headed the ball into the top middle of the net.

Just over 12 minutes later, it was déjà vu for Flagler as Fernandez and Carr connected on a corner kick once again, this time Carr headed the ball into the low right corner of the goal to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. The Hurricanes (4-6-3, 1-5-1 PBC) could not answer back in the first 45 minutes and Flagler took its two-goal lead into the second half.

Brin Wexler made it a 3-0 game in the 68th minute after Josefine Nilsen crossed the ball into the box, allowing Wexler to tap the ball into the bottom middle of the goal. With just five minutes remaining, Fernandez finalized the 4-0 victory after she launched a shot just inside the box on a long pass from Mikayla Lambert.

Fernandez earned her 10th goal of the season and had four points on the day with her one goal and two assists. Carr joined Fernandez with four points on the day on her two goals. Both Carr and Wexler earned their first goals of the season at Hurricane Field. Goalkeeper Madison North made one save to earn her third shutout of the season.

Flagler's offense took 14 shots while the defense held Georgia Southwestern to one shot. The Saints also had an advantage in shots on goal (11-1) and corner kicks (5-3).

The women's soccer team returns home Saturday for its third game of the week to host Lander University at 1 p.m. on Saints Field.
