Flagler men in second place after 36 holes at the McDonough Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. – Felix Villamil and Franco Piovano are both in the top five after 36 holes of play and the Flagler College men's golf team is in second place with a 1-under 575 (288-287) at the McDonough Cup, which was played Monday (Oct. 31) afternoon at the Rio Pinar Country Club (par 72; 7,001 yards). The final round will be played tomorrow starting at 8 a.m., but the Saints will tee off at 8:48 a.m.

Flagler's 1-under 287 tied for the best score in a round this season for the team.

Villamil moved up nine spots thanks to a career-best round of 5-under 67 in the second round. He sits in third place overall with a 4-under 140. Villamil had eight birdies and 24 pars in the two rounds today. He had five birdies and 13 pars in the second round alone.

Franco Piovano is in a tie for fourth place with a 3-under 141 (71-70). He had one of the six eagles today. Piovano's came in the second round on the par-5, 508-yard No. 10 hole.

Rollins College holds an eight-stroke lead over the 10-team field. The Tars finished the day with a 9-under 567. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is in third place with a 1-over 577.

Leading the 67-man field is Warut Wongrungro. He carded an 8-under 136 (64-72). His teammate, Drew Lanier, is in second place with a 7-under 137 (67-70).

Nic Eberhardt shot a 1-over 145 (70-75) and is in a tie for 16th place. Abe Forsyth, playing as an individual, is in a tie for 27th place with a 4-over 148 (79-69). His second round 3-under 69 was a career-best round. Joel Petersson (+5) and Trey Wilson (+6) rounded out the Flagler golfers.
