MORROW, Ga. - The No. 20 Flagler College women's soccer team suffered its first Peach Belt Conference loss after dropping a 3-0 game at Clayton State University Monday afternoon.
"The Lakers were the worthy winners this afternoon," head coach
Ashley Martin said. "Their game plan was effective, and they converted their chances."
Clayton State (1-6-2, 1-3-2 PBC) scored in the first two minutes of the match on a breakaway into the middle of the box. Ida Ditlevsen fed Amiah Sprunger-Hightower for her first goal of the day to give the Lakers a very early 1-0 lead.
Sprunger-Hightower scored Clayton State's final two goals in the 40th and 42nd minutes. The Lakers took a 3-0 lead into the second half. The Saints took seven shots in the second half but were unable to make the comeback, finalizing the 3-0 score.
Flagler (5-2-2, 3-1-1 PBC) had the advantage in shots (20-11), shots on goal (13-5) and corner kicks (7-3). Clayton State's goalkeeper, Trinity Chastain, made 13 saves to earn the shutout while Flagler's
Madison North made two stops for the Saints.
The Saints hit the road for their second of three games this week. Flagler travels to Georgia Southwestern State University Wednesday for a conference match at 5 p.m. in Americus, Georgia, before returning home to host Lander University Saturday at 1 p.m. at Saints Field.
