ST. AUGUSTINE –
Rachel Machovec led the way for Flagler College with 35 kills, 36 digs and had seven total blocks in two matches this afternoon at the Flagler Saints Invitational at Flagler Gymnasium. Flagler (2-2) defeated Valdosta State University 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 30-28) and then lost to Eckerd College 3-2 (18-25, 25-13, 25-23, 22-25, 11-15) to conclude the two-day tournament.
Logan Garcia added 17 kills, hit .300, and had six total blocks in both matches.
Victoria Bowrosen supplied 17 kills and 25 digs while
Rebekah Machovec had 16 kills, 24 digs, and six total blocks.
Kennedy Muff tallied 83 assists and had 22 digs as well as 13 kills.
Rachel Machovec led the Saints in the first match against Valdosta State. She finished with a match-high 19 kills and 22 digs. Machovec added six total blocks. It was her second double-double of the season. Muff added her second double-double of the year with 45 assists and 16 digs.
The Saints lost the first set, but fought to win the next three sets, including the fourth (30-28).
Jessie Mooney led the Blazers with 13 kills and 10 digs while Kylie Stroehlein added 12 kills and 19 digs.
In the finale of the tournament,
Rachel Machovec posted her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 14 digs. Garcia and Bowrosen each added 10 kills. Muff tallied 38 assists while
Edie Lamoreaux collected 15 digs.
The Saints lost the first set to the Tritons but came back with a vengeance in the second set behind a red-hot .394 hitting percentage. Eckerd finished with a strong .429 hitting percentage in the fifth set.
Ranya Mehta led Eckerd with a match-high 22 kills and finished with a .349 attack percentage. Krysten Garrison notched a double-double with 43 assists and 12 digs. Daniella Russo-Lolas also finished with a double-double with 24 digs and 12 assists. Joelle Coulter tacked on 14 kills and 13 digs.
Flagler returns to the court on Sept. 10 against Shorter University at 1 p.m. at Flagler Gym which is part of the Flagler Saint Classic.
