ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday to close out the Flagler Saints Classic at Flagler Gymnasium. The Saints swept West Virginia Wesleyan College (25-19, 25-13, 25-18) but lost a hard-fought match to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 3-1 (25-20, 12-25, 15-25, 21-25).
Flagler posted a 3-1 record in the two-day tournament and is 5-3 overall this season. The Saints open Peach Belt Conference play at home on Friday (Sept. 17) against Lander University at 6 p.m.
In the opener against West Virginia Wesleyan, Flagler cruised thanks to a .367 hitting percentage (43 kills and 10 errors on 90 swings).
Jordan Berglin recorded a season-high 11 kills and finished with a .381 hitting percentage.
Victoria Bowrosen added nine kills while
Rachel Machovec posted a .636 hitting percentage with seven kills.
Kennedy Muff tallied 34 assists while
Edie Lamoreaux paced the defense with 15 digs.
Makenzie Yates led the Bobcats with seven kills and nine digs.
The nightcap saw former Florida Sun Conference rivals meet again.
The Saints got off to a good start with a 25-20 win in the first set and held Embry-Riddle to a -.041 hitting percentage.
But the Eagles hit .609 in the second set and was able to take the last two sets to win the match.
Logan Garcia led Flagler with nine kills and five total blocks. She hit .368 in the match.
Rachel Machovec added seven kills and 14 digs. Muff tallied 24 assists.
Cameron Fenner and Lamoreaux each collected 13 digs.
Cameron Gilleland recorded a match-high 20 kills and completed the double-double with 12 digs for Embry-Riddle. Jaden McBride also turned in a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs. Emily Weaver tallied 37 assists and added 10 digs.
