ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College volleyball team posted a pair of wins on Friday in the Flagler Saints Classic at Flagler Gymnasium. The Saints opened with a commanding sweep (25-14, 25-15, 25-9) of Shorter University and then downed Lindenwood University 3-2 (25-13, 24-26, 25-16, 22-25, 15-8).
Flagler improved its record to 4-2. The Saints host West Virginia Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. and then close the tournament with longtime rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 7:30 p.m.
Rachel Machovec recorded 28 kills, gathered 26 digs, and hit .311 in the two matches for Flagler.
Kennedy Muff tallied 72 assists and 15 kills to go along with 12 digs and five total blocks. She hit .429.
Logan Garcia hit a red-hot .469 with 18 kills and only three errors on 32 swings.
Arianna Lopez turned in a solid performance with 10 kills and 10 total blocks.
Edie Lamoreaux and
Cameron Fenner each had six aces.
The Saints made quick work of the Hawks from Shorter.
Rachel Machovec led a balanced attack with 10 kills and 11 digs. Garcia and Bowrosen added seven and six kills, respectively. Muff tallied 26 assists and Lopez had five total blocks.
Flagler held Shorter to a -.042 hitting percentage.
Lacee Glover led Shorter with eight kills.
Flagler out-lasted Lindenwood and used a .467 hitting percentage in the deciding set to win the match. A 7-2 spurt gave the Saints control of the set and a block by
Rachel Machovec and Lopez capped the run and gave Flagler an 11-4 lead.
Rachel Machovec notched her fifth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 15 digs. Muff added her third double-double of the year with 46 assists and 10 kills. Garcia hit .400 with 11 kills and added six total blocks. Bowrosen tacked on 11 kills and hit .296. Fenner registered five aces.
Taylor Gentemann led the Lions with 12 kills while Rebecca Janke and Madilyn Dement each recorded 10 kills. Allie Otten finished with a double-double as she had 44 assists and 10 digs.
