ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College pounded out 12 hits and got an impressive performance on the mound from Gage Voorhees in an 11-1 victory over Claflin University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Wednesday night at Drysdale Field.

Flagler improved to 10-20 overall and 9-15 in the Peach Belt. Claflin dropped to 3-27 overall and in conference play.

Voorhees (2-0), making his first start as a Saint, allowed one run, and scattered five hits over eight innings. He retired the first nine batters he saw. Voorhees struck out six batters.

Flagler broke the game open in the third inning. Already leading 1-0, Myles Colangelo's single drove in Adam Mitchell, who had doubled in the previous at bat, to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Ashton Thomas belted his first collegiate home run over the right-center field fence to push the lead to 4-0.

Colangelo hit a two-run home run in a four-run fifth inning. He went 2-for-5 with three runs batted in, and he scored two runs.

Mitchell went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and he had one RBI. Chase Carney was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI.

Keati Buchanan (0-2) took the loss for Claflin. He surrendered eight runs on 10 hits in five innings of work.

Gerardric Dobbs hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The same two teams meet tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Drysdale Field.
