DAHLONEGA, Ga. – No. 22 (
Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia plated four runs in the eighth inning to defeat Flagler College 5-1 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia improved to 18-7 overall and 18-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 6-17 overall and 5-12 in conference play.
Bill LeRoy's run-scoring single to right-center gave the Nighthawks a 2-1 lead in the eighth. A walk to load the bases was followed by a ground out that scored another run. Jake Howard capped the scoring with a two-run single.
Eddie Galatas (3-2) picked up the win in relief for North Georgia. He tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings and fanned four.
Howard collected three singles for the Nighthawks and had two runs batted in. Brady Eeles singled twice and scored a run while Will Hardigree went 2-for-3 with a double.
Adam Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a double and he scored a run for the Saints.
Donovan Garcia had a single.
Jett Walsh (0-3) took the loss in relief. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowed one hit and four runs. He walked three batters, one of which was intentional.
Kyle Morton started and allowed one run and nine hits in seven innings of work. He induced eight ground out and eight more fly outs.
Flagler will close out the road swing next weekend at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. The conference series opens Friday at 5 p.m.
