Augusta knocks off Flagler in four

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Kylie Martin led a balanced offensive attack with a match-high 12 kills as Augusta University defeated Flagler College, 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18), in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Augusta won its fourth match in a row to improve to 5-2 overall and in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its seven-match win streak snapped and is now 9-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

Martin completed the double-double with 15 digs. Chloe Allen added 10 kills and had five block assists while Nedu Evans and Alyssa Frazier each had 10 kills. Samantha Zittrauer tallied 25 assists. Holland Martin collected a team-high 21 digs. Nicolette Ramos finished with five total blocks and Alexis Infante-Diaz added four more.

Rebekah Machovec led the Saints with 10 kills while Logan Garcia added nine more. Kennedy Muff recorded her fifth double-double with 29 assists and 15 digs. Karolina Garstka collected a team-high 21 digs. Cameron Fenner had three aces.

The first set featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. With the score tied at 23, Sarah Kate Thompson's ace gave the Saints set point. The set ended on a hitting error by the Jaguars. Machovec, Garcia, and Jordan Taylor each had three kills in the set. Martin had five for Augusta.

In the second set, Morgan Hall's kill cut the Flagler deficit to one (15-14), but Augusta went on to score the next four points to pull away. Evans led the Jaguars with five kills and hit .625. Augusta hit .286 in the set. Allen and Ramos each had three block assists. Machovec had four kills for the Saints. Flagler hit .023.

Augusta used a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead and held off a late Flagler rally. Muff had two kills, five assists, and six digs for the Saints. Kylie Martin and Holland Martin each had three aces for the Jaguars.

In the fourth set, with the score tied at 10, an attack error by Flagler and an ace by Allen gave Augusta a two-point lead. The Saints rallied to close to within three (21-18), but a service error and kills by Allen and Kylie Martin gave the Jaguars match point. Martin and Diaz-Infante blocked a Flagler attack to end the match.  

Flagler looks to get back into the win column tomorrow at USC Aiken at 3 p.m.
