Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 4 women's soccer blanks Lander; five players score

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.  — There were a lot of smiles on the Flagler College women's soccer team's sideline Thursday afternoon.

The No. 4-ranked Saints saw a full-fledged team effort as five different players scored en route to a 5-0 Peach Belt Conference win versus visiting Lander University at Saints Field.

"I'm delighted with the game and result," Flagler head coach Ashley Martin said. "Today, was a fabulous team performance, and we showed real grit and quality to take care of a tough Lander team. I'm thrilled that we had five different scorers and three players score their first collegiate goals today."

It had been over a week since Flagler (3-0-1, 2-0-1 PBC) last played and the Saints made it worth the wait. Maria Castorino Mujica phoned a friend after her penalty kick skipped through the right corner in the 10th minute for the flood gates to open, and then her teammates answered with four more goals.

Annie Habeeb was the next responsible as she matched Castorino Mujica's PK with one of her own in the 28th minute for her first goal of the season. Castorino Mujica's was her second and lone shot on goal. Habeeb, Josefine Nilsen and Moa Arlebo led the Saints with four shots as Arlebo used one hers in the 38th minute for her first collegiate goal.

The freshman collected a rebounded through ball and put it home to put Flagler ahead 3-0 at half. In the second half, the Bearcats (2-3, 2-3) replaced goalkeeper Sarah Owen with Taylor Frew — as both combined for five saves — but it didn't slow down the Saints.

Flagler had two more collegiate first timers net goals as Emery Biggs did in the 85th minute via Chloe Byrne's pass across the middle. The freshman didn't hesitate, settling the ball and launching it outside the box and just under the crossbar for her first goal and the 4-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Alycia Dowling took a pass from Nislen in the box off a rebounded shot and found paydirt as she placed her first-career goal into the right corner to cap scoring.

Flagler out-shot Lander 22-6, with 10 shots on goal compared to the Bearcats' five. In goal for the Saints, Sarah-Lisa Dubel and Madison North combined for a shutout as Dubel had a trio of saves in 75 minutes and North had two key ones to keep the clean sheet.

Up Next: The Saints will have an exhibition match with the Orlando Pride Sunday, March 14 before traveling to UNC-Pembroke for a 1 p.m. match on Thursday, March 18.
