Men's soccer keeps momentum flowing versus UNG; five players score

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Thursday's result produced the offensive attack head coach Chris Kranjc has been waiting to see.

The Flagler College men's soccer team took its momentum from an overtime, Peach Belt Conference victory earlier in the week and built on it as five different players scored in a 5-0 throttle of the University of North Georgia at Saints Field.

"I thought our team put in a very solid effort," Kranjc said. "Very pleased in our attacking play with five different players scoring goals, and we did well defensively to keep a clean sheet. So proud of how the team played and battled for the 90 minutes."

Of the Saints' five goal scorers, four of them —  Axel Nolgren, Jed Bowman, Jonas Schmitt and Zech Dapaah — netted their first goal of the season as it was Nolgren, Bowman and Dapaah's first-ever at Flagler.

As the 30th minute approached, Nolgren opened scoring via a quick pass in the box from Schmitt as the freshman took the feed and fired it into the left corner to give Flagler (2-2-1, 2-2-1 PBC) a lead it'd never lose. Just four minutes later, Joran Osland rainbowed a beautiful free kick that Bowman played perfectly to find paydirt and the 2-0 halftime lead.

The Saints had 10 cornerkicks compared to the Nighthawks' three, while out-shooting them 21-6 with 12 shots on goal to just two for North Georgia (1-6). Andrea Lubbia had both saves for the Saints in his second straight win and first clean sheet of the season.

In the final 90 minutes, the Saints kept attacking North Georgia goalkeeper Garrett Liles with a three-goal half. Schmitt was the receiver of Osland's second assist in the 65th minute as he found his teammate to the left of the box, and then Schmitt placed the slow-roller just ahead of the goalkeeper chasing back into the box in the attempt to save it.

Seven minutes later, Carson Sapp and Max Lambertz teamed up to send Cooper a beautiful assist, which met him in the air as Cooper leaped and headed it in for the Saints' fourth goal and his second of the year. On the final goal, Matteo Costa, who had five shots and two on goal, played a long ball with just the right touch as he passed the through ball to Dapaah and the sophomore finished up and over the keeper to complete the five-goal day for the Saints.

Up Next:  The Saints will host USC Aiken for its next PBC match Sunday at 4 p.m.
