ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The final point came down to a three-set thriller Wednesday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
 
Amelie Vossgaetter battled back from a set-one loss, winning the second but was then unable to hold onto the third set late as the No. 10 Flagler College women's tennis team fell in close one to Washburn University, 4-3.
 
"The girls need to learn from this disappointing loss and come together before conference starts this weekend," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "We work for years to get into the top 10 and for us to not come ready to play and compete at their highest level every match, is very disappointing and can affect the expectations we have in this program. We have to refocus and have our sights set on two quality teams in Augusta and Georgia College."
 
The Saints (5-3) will begin Peach Belt Conference play this weekend with a pair of home matches. The first being Friday against Augusta University at 1 p.m., and the next Saturday versus Georgia College at 10 a.m.
 
Washburn (5-0) took the lead first with the doubles point, but Flagler took control in the singles quickly as Eden Schlagenhauf, Alessandra Traub and Anika Nissen all collectively won their third straight matches in two sets. Unfortunately, the Ichabods then took the next three singles matches on courts No. 6, No. 5 and No. 3 to seal the road victory.
